Alphalete Leggings Worth the Price?

Review of Alphalete’s leggings' material, fit, and more.

Finding the perfect gym leggings is tough. They should hug you in the right places, boost your confidence, be durable, and support you during squats.

I never found a pair of shorts or leggings that checked every single one of those boxes for me until I bought my first pair of Alphalete Amplify leggings.

I'll be honest, I had my doubts before making the purchase. The price was much higher than what I usually spent. However, I was tired of dealing with cheap leggings that constantly slipped down and gave me discomfort during workouts. So I took the plunge—and never looked back.

Material

Alphalete's Amplify leggings and shorts have a special secret ingredient: the material. When I first felt them, I instantly knew I had made a smart choice. The quality speaks for itself. They're thick yet breathable, incredibly soft yet durable, and offer the perfect balance of stretch and structure. All credit goes to the exceptional fabrics used by Alphalete.

While many athletic wear brands use fabrics like nylon, Lycra, and Spandex, Amplify leggings take it up a notch. They are predominantly made from polyamide and polyester, which are highly regarded in the world of athleisure. Polyester is a lightweight, durable fabric that wicks away moisture and resists mildew. Plus, it has the added benefit of repelling dirt and stains, making it ideal for workouts in less-than-clean gym environments.

Polyamide, on the other hand, surpasses polyester in terms of durability, resistance to pilling, and breathability. Furthermore, both fabrics are shrink-resistant. When combined, these two exceptional materials create a pair of leggings that feel heavenly to wear.

Fit

One minor drawback of Alphalete's Amplify shorts and leggings is the inconsistent sizing, which can make finding the right fit a bit tricky. While I've had several pairs that fit perfectly, I've also had to return an almost equal number of items in the same size because they were unexpectedly tighter.

Some individuals claim that there is a variation in fit between lighter-colored and darker-colored fabric options, but I have personally found this claim to be somewhat untrue. As an example, I own a pair of rich brown leggings in size small that fit perfectly, while a pair of true indigo leggings in the same size felt excessively tight, almost to the point of discomfort. Surprisingly, both shades (brown and indigo) appear equally deep and dark to me.

The light shades of Alphalete's Amplify bottoms maintain consistent sizing, and I have not experienced any issues with tightness in that range. If you find yourself between sizes and it's your first time buying Amplify leggings, I suggest choosing one of the lightest shades in your usual size as a starting point. The great news is that Alphalete offers free shipping for exchanges, and their exchange process is exceptionally fast, ensuring a smooth experience.

Once you find the perfect size, Alphalete's Amplify leggings will feel like a second skin. They are effortless to put on and take off, stay in place without riding up or slipping down, and provide unrestricted movement. The best part? You'll never have to worry about camel toe.

Support

The support provided by workout leggings boils down to two crucial factors: the compression level of the waistband and the opacity of the fabric (ensuring they're squat-proof). Alphalete's Amplify leggings and shorts not only met but surpassed my expectations in both aspects.

First and foremost, the waistband of Alphalete's Amplify leggings and shorts features a thicker fabric weave, providing an extra level of support where it's most needed. Furthermore, the waistband offers impressive compression without feeling overly constricting. Even on days when I'm bloated, wearing the Amplify shorts and leggings makes me feel confident and well-supported.

The width of the waistband is another aspect of Alphalete's Amplify leggings that I absolutely adore. Unlike some competitor options that tend to have waistbands that are either too short, failing to cover the area beneath my belly button, or too long, extending too far up past my bottom ribs, Alphalete strikes the perfect balance. Their waistband manages to provide the desired tummy control while still allowing comfortable exposure of my midriff. It truly sucks in everything I want it to while maintaining a comfortable fit.

And here's the cherry on top: every single pair of Alphalete's Amplify shorts and leggings I own is completely squat-proof, including the lightest shade in my collection (utility grey). This remarkable level of support is achieved thanks to the polyamide and polyester fabrics used in the knit. These sturdy and stretchy materials ensure the garments maintain their shape while providing the necessary coverage during squats and other exercises.

How They Stack Up to Competitors

Alphalete vs Gymshark

If I could pick a second-best brand to Alphalete, it would be Gymshark. While Gymshark's leggings and shorts are just as supportive and flattering as Alphalete's, they're also a good deal more affordable to boot.

Personally, I find Alphalete's Amplify leggings and shorts to be superior to Gymshark for a few reasons. Firstly, the fabric of Alphalete's offerings is notably softer and feels of slightly higher quality. Additionally, I appreciate the classier design aesthetic they offer, which aligns with my personal preference. Unlike my experience with Gymshark leggings, I have encountered instances where they slip down my waist during workouts. With Alphalete, I can trust that they will stay securely in place. Ultimately, when I wear Alphalete exercise pants, I feel more confident overall.

Alphalete vs Lululemon

Honestly, I've never been inclined towards Lululemon because their prices always seemed steep to me, and their designs didn't quite resonate with my style (apologies to Lululemon enthusiasts). However, I received a pair of Lululemon leggings as a gift and I must acknowledge their merits. The fabric is undeniably luxurious, with a buttery feel, excellent durability, and vibrant color retention. However, I experienced the worst camel toe ever while wearing them, particularly due to the front seams. If you're concerned about front seams and camel toe, I highly recommend skipping Lululemon and opting for Alphalete instead.

While Lululemon may have an advantage when it comes to the feel of their fabric, considering factors such as price, fit, and support, Alphalete emerges as the clear winner. Alphalete excels in these aspects, ensuring a favorable overall experience.
